Therapeutic Approach
Clinical Theory
I view the challenges you share with me from a nervous system perspective whether you identify as having a nervous system disorder or not, this comes out of trauma informed and trauma responsive care and established research. This means that I believe the body is doing its best to keep you safe and that fight, flight, freeze, and fawn may not be working for you anymore. I also know that we can use the data the nervous system is giving us to understand when and how you can up or down regulate, self soothe, or change direction to return to balance. We'll do so through a combination of evidence based practices, primarily ACT, somatic interventions, and Motivational Interviewing with attention to Attachment and Existential Psychotherapy.
I am also a yoga teacher and may bring in movement and body based interventions, helping to build, rebuild, and strengthen the brain - body connection.
I believe and research supports that the therapeutic relationship is more important than a particular model. I hope to get to know you person to person rather than expert to patient.
About Hosia
Hi there!
I'm a LGBTQ+ Portland native with several years of Seattle living and a little LA thrown in for good measure. I completed my Masters at Lewis & Clark Graduate School and am currently working on my Ph.D at Oregon State University in Counseling. My research focuses on counseling folks with invisible illnesses and interventions for ASD meltdowns.
I am a licensed mental health therapist and certified substance use counselor in all West Coast states, and approved clinical supervisor in Oregon, and Washington as well as a National Certified Counselor. I've spent nearly a decade in community mental health and nonprofit co-occurring treatment and leadership.
I'm also a yoga teacher and draw from hyper-mobile informed yoga practices.
My clinical practice moved toward chronic illness therapy after I was diagnosed with MS in 2019, I live with hEDS, MCAS, Dysautonomia, and accompanying disorder stars across the chronic constellation. I use my experience in practice at times and will share with you when it's useful.
When not working or studying I enjoy reading, music, cooking (playing with low histamine now) and adventuring with my partner and puppo.
